Hello,

I use Windows 7.
I'm trying to use Task Scheduler. I'd like a particular script to start each time I quit Firefox.
The problem is that I can't seem to find, within Task Scheduler, the trigger that corresponds to the event of my quitting Firefox.
Any hint would be welcome.

Thanks.

PhraseExpress is okay, but be prepared for an onslaught of pop-ups asking you to register for the paid version. These annoying solicitations actually SLOW down your workflow to the point that PhraseExpress is counter-productive.

I had to uninstall PhraseExpress and take up the awesome AHK.

Sweet, I was able to put together a script that sets Ctrl+Alt+Left and Right to move all windows to one monitor or the other:

^!Left::GatherWindows(1)
^!Right::GatherWindows(2)

IsResizable()
{
    WinGet, Style, Style
    return (Style & 0x40000) ; WS_SIZEBOX
}

GatherWindows(md=1)
{
    global ProcessGatherExcludeList

    SetWinDelay, -1 ; Makes a BIG difference to perceived performance.

    ; List all visible windows.
    WinGet, win, List

    ; Copy bounds of all monitors to an array.
    SysGet, mc, MonitorCount
    Loop, %mc%
        SysGet, mon%A_Index%, MonitorWorkArea, %A_Index%

    ; Destination monitor
    mdx := mon%md%Left
    mdy := mon%md%Top
    mdw := mon%md%Right - mdx
    mdh := mon%md%Bottom - mdy

    Loop, %win%
    {
        ; If this window matches the GatherExclude group, don't touch it.
        if (WinExist("ahk_group GatherExclude ahk_id " . win%A_Index%))
            continue

        ; Set Last Found Window.
        if (!WinExist("ahk_id " . win%A_Index%))
            continue

        WinGet, procname, ProcessName
        ; Check process (program) exclusion list.
        if procname in %ProcessGatherExcludeList%
            continue

        WinGetPos, x, y, w, h

        ; Determine which monitor this window is on.
        xc := x+w/2, yc := y+h/2
        ms := 1
        Loop, %mc%
            if (xc >= mon%A_Index%Left && xc <= mon%A_Index%Right

            continue

        ; Source monitor
        msx := mon%ms%Left
        msy := mon%ms%Top
        msw := mon%ms%Right - msx
        msh := mon%ms%Bottom - msy

        ; If the window is resizable, scale it by the monitors' resolution difference.

Not 100% sure if this works outside of windows 7 but you can use the windows key + arrows to move windows from one monitor to another. Its still a one-by-one thing but you could probably automate it in some way using EventGhost.

Every day when I leave work, I manually move all my windows from my secondary screen to my primary (laptop) screen. What's the best automated way to do this? Preferably a keyboard shortcut and autohotkey, but could be something else as long as it's done in one step. The challenge is that my secondary monitor is really big, and my laptop screen is a much smaller resolution, so half the windows need to be resized to fit.

Got a solution? Best answer might get featured on Lifehacker or How-To Geek!

I've only used registry cleaners when program installs have been giving me problems, other than that I don't see the point. I find it hard to believe my computer will grind to a halt because one thing in the registry is confusing it.

I always (and only) use Revo for uninstalling programs and I've never had a problem with it. Well, sometimes it tries to delete related programs by accident, for example uninstalling a Steam game means it tries to delete your entire Steam folder as "left overs", but you can always see what's going on. As for it's registry cleaning, it will always (unless disabled) create a system restore before uninstalling so if it messes up you can go back.

Brady what keys did it want to delete out of curiosity? I have never used Revo Uninstaller but would be interested in what it was removing. If it was a bunch of numbers and letters surounded by {} it might have been a COM registration which could have been one of the applications dll files.

A couple of people here have mentioned Revo Uninstaller and the role it plats in reg cleaning. However, when I tried Revo, I did a full uninstall and got the registry cleaning portion, and it looked like it wanted to delete some keys which were not in any apparent way related to the program I was uninstalling. They may have been, but they may not have been, too. It made me nervous that Revo was going to delete some portion of my registry due to mistaken identity, so I stopped using it.
Am I being too paranoid? Should I trust Revo to fully uninstall, including clearing the registry, without killing the wrong key?

I've used CCleaner and it's never messed up my system. That's the only program I really use to do any kind of registry cleaning. It's just to risky to try out all these random programs.

The best thing to do is install applications into a virtual environment or using visualization software. This way your main registry never gets loaded with junk, but you can still install whatever you like.

I wrote about a program called Altiris Software Virtualization, which is now part of Symantec:

http://www.online-tech-tips.com/software-reviews/install-software-virtually-and-protect-your-computer-using-altiris-software-virtualization/

Microsoft also has a application virtualization software:

http://www.microsoft.com/systemcenter/appv/default.mspx

Mercurial would be my choice. While it might not be as flexible as git it takes a lot less to setup and seems to do everything I could ever want.

I see registry cleaners as a tool that can fix specific problems. I generally don't recommend running them on a regular basis to improve perfomance.

A good example of when I would run a registry cleaner is say an application doesn't uninstall properly, it may have left a heap of enteries in CLSID, trying to track the GUID back to the components would be very painful but registry cleaners like ccleaner can scan CLSID and remove enteries that reference files that no longer exist. Plus it also dumps a reg file so you can undo any problems it created.

@jj128: do I have versioned folders in Dropbox for an unlimited time (with the free 2GB version?). If it's so, than I can also give a +1 for dropbox :)

Also might want to look at System Explorer, not as in depth as SIW, might still be useful.

Thanks for sharing. I found SIW to be "overkill", a great application but just too much. I'll check out Lupo Pen Suite!
