This is what my first experiences with Rainmeter have lead me to so far. It's a work in progress, but most things I do usually are. Most of the skins are based around the GeoSans 2.0 Skin by gberger. I'm using his skins for the drive icons, and have modified a few others to use the GeoSans font, which I've come to love. Other skins used include:

    - SimpleMeter V1.02 by Chewtoy. I modified his clock setup pretty heavily to fit my needs.

    - Yboris' ToDo List Skin from yboris. Again, modified heavily to fit the theme. The font used here is Eight One by =glue, another nice font.

    - The default Enigma RSS Reader skins. There are four of them used total - one for HowToGeek, one for ProductiveGeek, one for Lifehacker, and one for a basketball blog. They're all customized to use the Eight One font and are set to a high transparency, fading in when I mouse over them.

    - A custom built date skin, again using the GeoSans font set.

I also modified the icons of my pinned Taskbar programs to a set called Token by brsev in order to stick with the subdued color theme. The wallpaper used is Icy Undertow from TheReal7.

I'm pretty happy with it so far. It's more minimal than I'm used to, which is nice. I use a fair amount of Autohotkey scripting to allow me to use the keyboard for mostly everything. I built a quick script to let me easily add a task to the ToDo list using an Input Box and the FileAppend command, making adding a task very quick. The next thing I want to do is change the start button to a darker one, as I feel it kind of stands out right now.

I'd love to hear your opinions and suggestions, though. What do you think?

  2. That's pretty awesome... a modified start orb to match the icons would be sweet, though a pain to deal with.

  3. Looking good, I had a similar icy desktop before. And as howtogeek said, you might want to try out the steelOrb to match to Token icons ;)

  4. It looks nice, but I agree with howtogeek. I also hate to hack the Start Orb, but the program found onIntoWindows (Start Orb Changer) works very well.

  5. Well, you guys gave me enough incentive to work on changing it, but I've struck out so far. I've tried both replacing explorer.exe with a pre-supplied one and using the Start Button Changer program, but neither have produced any results.

I'll get some sort of resource editor sometime this week and try things that way. I'll update with some shots when I've had success.

I had some time in class today to get things figured out. The problem was that I was using a custom DPI set to 125%, which changes the respective images that need to be changed. Just had to knock the DPI back down and all is now good. I'm not sure if I'll be staying with the one that's there right now, though. There are some pretty cool orbs out there...

  8. Hello... I think that desktop is amazing, and while I think it would be tacky to plagiarize the look, cool as it is, I would like to create something as beautiful and useful. But I seem to be missing something... I've downloaded Icy Undertow, SimpleMeter and Yboris' ToDo List Skin. But when I unpack the 2 apps I simply get configuration files which I'm unfamiliar with.

Do I need to download Rainmeter to manipulate those files & configure them to go onto the wallpaper? What am I missing here? A little help for a noob plz.

    Thanks!

  9. Yes you will need rainmeter, this is the program that these skins 'plug in' to. Rainmeter is not the easiest application to learn but its worth the effort, you can create some truly beautiful things with it.
