Odd question

  1. I'm still running the windows 7 rtm and i'm ready to upgrade to the real thing. However i'm running software raid 1 between a pair of terrabyte drives and a pair of 500 gig drives. Windows is installed on a seperate 320 gig drive. If i format the 320 and install the new os and attempt to setup a new software raid between the pairs would there be any issues in doing that? In theory it should all work but I'd like some opinions before I attempt this.

  2. I would be really careful since you have software raid and make sure you have a backup. Never know what will happen.

  3. Yeah, you should find a way to back up all that data to somewhere before you do anything. Too risky otherwise.

  4. Assuming you are using Windows 7's built-in software RAIDing, you shouldn't need to do anything, it will see it automatically. At least it does with XP when using dynamic disks; I just did this last week.

  5. Back up the bugger and let it rip. What could possibly go wrong (tongue firmly in cheek)?

  6. I performed a fresh Windows 7 install with 2 drives set to RAID0 that I setup via the motherboard RAID BIOS. All I did was set them up in the motherboard bios and then Windows 7 did the rest. It recognized them perfectly, unlike Windows XP which was a huge pain in the butt.
