I was wondering what programs people here are using to backup or keep offsite storage of their important files.
I have just (last month) purchased a Sugarsync account 60gig for $100. I got it mainly to keep a backup of all my files off site in case of fire and theft of laptop and external hdd.
I did a whole lot of testing with other backups and syncing programs and finally decided to go with Sugarsync for two reasons.
1. Prices were not the best but were reasonable enough compared to others.
2. Features. The file manager is great and easy to operate. The Iphone app is great. Ability to access everything and email it on to someone or provide a link to the file quickly makes it great for my work. (As long as I have remembered to upload it)
I know its not the best program for backup but I decided that I could put in the extra work to make sure everything is organised it would be worth it.
I currently use Mozy to backup all of my files off site. It's about $5 a month per PC, so $60 a year. You choose the files and it will automatically back everything up. It doesn't have an iPhone app though, which is pretty cool.
I also use a HP MediaSmart server in my home network for backing up all my Windows and Mac computers. It's pretty easy to setup and really easy to restore a computer using it.
I actually use two: Mozy and Dropbox. I love Mozy because of the unlimited storage, but it is slow, slow slow. I double backup my most important files with dropbox -- every time I press save on a document, dropbox instantly uploads that copy. I couldn't be happier with it.
Im actually using Dropbox as well. Sugarsync does not make a linux port available so I just have the syncing folders for both Sugarsync and Dropbox set as the same ones. Can then have files running on my Ubuntu box as well.
