Windows 7 Customization

  1. I was wondering if anyone does any theme modifying on Windows 7. I messed with it a lot on XP, I got tired of the Fischer Price blue after using it for so long. I really like the appearance of 7 though. I just got thinking tonight and I'd like to maybe make the taskbar and title bar different colors. Anyone have any tips or ticks on doing stuff like that?

  2. Well if thats all you're changing, all you have to do is right click the desktop and click "Personalize". Its a simple thing of adjusting the "Window Color", which is located on the bottom of the window. Click that and choose a color and if you want it transparent or not. You could also click on the "Show Color Mixer" option for a more advanced color pallet. If you are planning on changing anything else, it might get a bit more complicated, though. Let me know how it turns out.

  3. If the Show Color Mixer isn't enough, you can always try the uxtheme patch like it is available for Windows XP. There are a lot of themes available online, like on DeviantArt. I don't know if there is a (free) Windows 7 theme editor.. I patched my Windows 7 on my laptop and downloaded a theme with square windows, a bit different explorer window and the aero-peek shiny thing changed.

  4. I know how to change the colors. I was actually hoping to have a different color for the taskbar than the title bar. Like a blue title bar with a white taskbar, but with the regular 7 theme.

  5. I realized that when I saw your other post (cool wallpaper by the way). Though I'm not sure if there is such a way to edit that. I did some searching, but came up short, other than to download another theme. But there has to be a way...

  6. I like to customize the looks of Windows 7, but only the looks. I like the functionality of Windows 7, so I'm not looking for taskbar replacement. First time I searched for other themes was only after a year of using W7. Not because I got bored, but finally wanted to personalize my laptop.

Yeah, I defiantly want to keep the functionality of Win7. And like you said, it's not that I'm bored with it or anything, I just like eye candy and I like to have a stand out desktop. Although, with XP, I was just very, very bored with it.

  8. To give you an idea what is possible (and what I like) take a look at Windows 7 Desatured. This theme didn't work for the full 100% unfortunately, but it looks very slick.

  9. I'm not wild about the folder set, but the theme itself is amazing. It's different enough to stand out but subtle enough that it still holds the Win7 feel.
